As an alternative to home extensions many homeowners are converting unused single or double integral garage spaces. If you need more space, then this may be the solution to your needs. Garage conversions can usually be completed without the need for planning permission however conversion of a garage to any kind of living space is treated as a change of use of part of a building. An application for approval under the Building Regulations must be made before work starts. The submission of a Building Notice is an appropriate way to achieve this.
Most single garages are rarely used for parking a car as they are generally too small and that space can be much more valuable to you if it is converted to provide useful living space. Integral garages are commonly used as storage space and can be the most straightforward to convert with minimal disruption to your home. Work can be completed within a couple of weeks and the new space matched seamlessly to your home.
Almost all ground floor extensions end up providing us with additional multi-functional living space which is generally far more valuable than an additional an upper floor loft conversion that may have limited use. Converting your garage is a hugely popular alternative as it's one of the cheapest ways to add on extra living space.
With more people working from home the most common new use is for a study area. Other uses are a playroom, ground floor bedroom, separate dining room or an annex intended for an elderly relative. Houses with a double garage have the option of retaining part for the use of a car and the other as an extra new room. So if you are located in the North East and are thinking about converting your garage, give us a call!

Extension
"We approached Conservatory and Window World and from the outset felt completely comfortable with the way in which they conducted their business, there was no sales pressure and it was obvious they wanted to ensure we were going to get exactly what we wanted which was so refreshing after our previous disaster.
Not only did we go with the extension but we also had the garage roof insulated and recovered in Sarnafil and all of the roofline done in UPVC.
During the construction we had very few issues and ones we did were done in order to give us what we wanted (how many builders would be so accommodating).
We cannot praise to highly the way CWW conducted themselves during the whole process and would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone who may be considering a similar project."
